Grand Prix or Getting Personal?

Well, if you’re as crazy about motorcycle racing as I am, you’re probably not getting much yard work done these past 3 weekends! With MotoGP’s Silverstone, Assen, and Catalunya and Misano’s WSBK sandwiched in between, it’s been a racing  infused launch into summer.

Catalunya’s Montmelo track will be leading the riders into the 7th session this Sunday with wild card Wataru Yoshikawa taking Valentino Rossi’s place for Team Fiat Yamaha. This will beYoshikawa’s first time at Montmelo and the second time in a GP wild card position, Motegi being his first back in 2002. This obvious antithetic choice has left more than a few fans scratching their heads! Ducati’s “tell is like it is” Casey Stoner, even went so far as to say Rossi’s replacement was “a joke.” You have to admit, the guy might have a valid point!

Even with the compact last few weekends, it’s been relatively predictable on the track. And if last year is any indication with Rossi beating out Lorenzo in a last lap battle, Jorge will surely assume another flawless 5th victory for 2010 in Cataluya, in Rossi’s temporary absence. In making this prediction, I’m fully aware, I could be eating my favorite official MotoGP hat! But, really, I don’t think I will be asking anyone to pass the salt!

With Rossi breaking his leg after a high side 4 weeks ago at Mugello, rumours and comments have been flying faster than the best qualifying times!

At the beginning of this past week, there has been speculation that Valentino Rossi will be making an announcement some time over the Catalunya race weekend whether or not he will indeed be signing with Ducati for next season.  The change in factory rides could and probably will, lead to a domino effect with other GP riders.  If Vale goes to Ducati, he will be sharing the paddock with Nicky Hayden, which will push Casey Stoner to fulfill his recent threats and move to Repsol Honda.

These possible change-ups will most likely not leave Dani Pedrosa feeling too warm and fuzzy towards Stoner, which could force Honda to add another factory ride. That should make Dorma happy! And let’s not forget new on the GP grid, Yamaha’s Ben Spies. These series of events could push him up from Tech 3 to a Factory position, pairing him up with Jorge Lorenzo.

So, there is no doubt this will be an exciting race weekend, the only question is; will all eyes be on Jorge Lorenzo or Valentino Rossi?
